Typograph and FontForge

FontForgeFrom their website

FontForge is a free, open source font editor made by volunteers, for Mac, Windows and Linux.

You draw curves by hand or trace images, and it covers kerning, ligatures and hinting.

TypographStart from letters, not from nothing

Typograph works the other way round from a classic font editor. You start from a template, or describe the typeface you want, and then tune the letterforms.

It is trained on 50,000 hand drawn glyphs, supports 66 languages and runs in the browser. You own full rights to the fonts you make.

Time for a family of 10 weights is our own estimate for an experienced designer making a Latin typeface with spacing and kerning, not a figure from the makers. Real projects vary.

Which to pick
Both are good at different things

Pick FontForge if you want a free tool and are ready to learn to draw type.
